With the threat of infestation of the Quagga/Zebra mussel, the District would like to take an opportunity to give you some vital information regarding procedures you will encounter when launching vessels at public facilities this summer. Being aware of these mandatory procedures will speed your boat launching experience.
✴All vessels are required to be inspected prior to entering the waters of Big Bear Lake
✴Please be patient and make sure your drain plug is pulled
✴There must be no standing water inside bilges or live wells. Invasive mussels can live in standing water for weeks and are undetectable to the eye
✴Ramp attendants will also ask you to lower outdrives in the down position to make sure they are free of water
✴With the abundance of other water bodies in close proximity to Big Bear Lake, the District is considering all vessels that are not cleaned, drained and dry a means of possibly spreading invasive species.
✴When exiting the Lake contact the ramp attendant for a special boat band that will seal the vessel to the trailer. This indicates that when your vessel comes back to a public ramp it has not been to any other lake and will not have to go through the inspection process as long as the band is still in place and intact.
✴If your vessel enters ANY other waters you must have it re-inspected prior to launching into Big Bear Lake.
✴Before launching any hand carried craft (kayaks, canoes, float-tubes) bring it to either of the two public launch ramps on the North Shore for inspection and cleaning if necessary. ALL hand launched vessels require an inspection prior to launch. After your vessel is inspected you can purchase a permit and be issued an inspection card.
✴The District will decontaminate any vessel free of charge with one of our hot water pressure washers located at both public launch ramps.
